Washington, PA, PA Trolley Museum - Oldest Operating Diesel in the US
PA Trolley Museum, Sunday, November 2nd. The old Armco Steel switching locomotive, which is the oldest operating diesel locomotive in the US was getting fired up to keep the seals lubricated. The locomotive was built in the 30's and operated at the Butler Armco steel plant until around 1967 when it was donated to the museum. The locomotive is coming off the connection to the old Chartiers Branch of the PRR now operated by the P&OC. It was a short trip but nice to see this old lady in action, the sight, the sound, that oil and diesel smell. There is nothing like it.
