The Dermaroller and Collagen Connection - Build Collagen Even After 40

I've been a research adviser and consultant for over 25 years. My greatest passion is anti-aging skin research. Recently, I came across an interesting device called the derma roller - which looks like a little torture device -- more than an anti-aging device.

The derma roller is a small roller, like a rolling pin, but it contains 192 surgical steel micro-needles. When the derma roller is rolled over the skin - like the crows feet area, neck lines, or forehead lines - it causes tiny little openings into the upper layer of the skin which close in a few hours.

Two things happen as a result of these little punctures:

1. The body perceives the punctures as damage and launches into "repair" mode by releasing growth factors which trigger collagen production. The repeated action of using the derma roller two or three times a month gently encourages skin remodeling - much like laser cosmetic surgery but without the cost and healing time . Skin remodeling is especially helpful for acne scars and fine lines. Keep in mind that the skin renews itself about every 40 days.

2. By temporarily pushing open the pores of the skin with the derma roller, any anti-aging creams and moisturizers you apply are better able to penetrate the skin - instead of just sitting on top of it. Allowing you to derive maximum benefits from your best face moisturizer.

How To Use The Derma Roller?

Simply clean your skin well, apply your favorite anti-aging cream first and then roll the derma roller 4 times in different directions... Up and down, and side to side. Concentrate on areas that bother you the most like crows feet (eye wrinkles), forehead wrinkles, smile lines, and neck wrinkles. Some people even use the derma roller on their chest - where the skin tends to get thin and wrinkled.

It does not hurt if you use the right kind - the one made for home use. You will feel a light tickling sensation, but that is it. There is an "industrial" version made to be used by trained skin specialists. They have to apply a numbing cream because the needles are longer and will cause some discomfort. This one should not be used at home unless you are a trained professional.

The home version will not draw blood, but your skin will be red in the areas rolled, so don't do this right before going out. In fact, the best time to use the derma roller is at night so you skin can soak up all of that great anti-aging cream will you sleep.
