Today on the ER&W we have another 5 unit lash up but nothing like this...on the point we have USS Steel SD 38-2 #1, NS SD40-2 # 1652, ex BN/exCB&Q SD24 # 6240, Southern painted GP59 # 4610, and finally ex TP&W GP 18 # 600. All 5 units are pulling an extremly heavy westbound freight, also called train PhDE 220 ( A Philadelphia to Delaware freight). This train is usually fully loaded and requires a number of units to get it over the 2.3% grade out of Richardson yard which is located next to the Schuylkill River. Once the train left the yard it ran on CSX's Philly sub. Then it switched to the NEC for the run over to ER&W's Harrisburg connection line or called the HCL. This train is making good time as we see it passing through tower junction and tunnel station. The plow train is on a test run. The purpose of this run is to see if the plow blades on both the Russll plow and the Jordan Spreader have the proper clearance over the rails..The SD14R # 6147 and conrail C44-9CW # 6051..enjoy this action and colorful vid with mainline action at its best!!
