This is ERICO's new CADWELD PLUS cathodic connection, copper wire to a steel plate. This is a tiny weld, the smallest size (15) that ERICO offers. The result is an atomic bond, produced by liquefying a very thin steel layer with copper weld metal. In this test, I am testing the strength of the bond. As you can see, CADWELD is an extremely effective bonding process. This is a very unique bond from the metallurgical standpoint because the heat input is low relative to the weld size, and copper and steel could be effectively welded together, without concern for liquation effects at the austenitic grain boundaries during resolidification, as you would in a more traditional weld.
